Playtrove-Setup-1.0.0.exe: the installer. If Playtrove is already installed, choose Update in the update notification to install this version and keep your library.

Playtrove-1.0.0-portable.zip: unzip it into a new folder and open
Playtrove.exe
. To keep your library from a previous portable copy, close the app and move its
data
folder next to the new
Playtrove.exe
.

Playtrove is not digitally signed yet, so Windows may show a protection notice when you first open it.

What's new

Fullscreen mode for the TV: press Fullscreen or F11 to browse your library from the couch with a DualSense (USB or Bluetooth), a keyboard or a mouse. It has collections, search with an on-screen keyboard, the same filters as the desktop library plus sorting, game details, ratings and reviews, achievements, notices, a help screen, navigation sounds and power options (lock, sleep, restart and shut down, each with a confirmation). It can also open on startup.

Four fullscreen themes: the default Playtrove theme, inspired by Playnite's fullscreen mode, and three themes that take their style from game consoles, each with its own home screen, game details, colors and sounds: Horizon (a row of games on top and the art filling the screen), Mosaic (big covers and round shortcuts, in dark gray and red) and Panel (art in the background and big tiles: continue playing, collections, achievements and statistics). Switch themes in Settings → General or from the fullscreen main menu.

Theme music: each game can have its own soundtrack, played offline in the library and in fullscreen. Playtrove can find it automatically with the metadata, let you listen and choose between candidates, or use an MP3, M4A or WAV of your own.

Game logos: with SteamGridDB configured, Playtrove downloads each game's logo and shows it in the fullscreen themes.

Changes

Matching covers: every cover in the app, in the desktop views and in fullscreen, now uses the same upright 3:4 frame, with the art filling it, as in Playnite.

Covers come first from SteamGridDB, then from IGDB and, as a last resort, from libretro-thumbnails, so they fit the frame. Use Settings → Metadata → Download again for all to refresh the covers you already have.

Trailers can also play behind the fullscreen library, and each theme has its own trailer setting.

Notes

Physical DualSense navigation over USB and Bluetooth is still being validated; keyboard and mouse work everywhere.

Your library, settings and saved API keys are preserved.

Playtrove-Setup-0.9.0.exe: the installer. If Playtrove is already installed, choose Update in the update notification to install this version and keep your library.

Playtrove-0.9.0-portable.zip: unzip it into a new folder and open
Playtrove.exe
. To keep your library from a previous portable copy, close the app and move its
data
folder next to the new
Playtrove.exe
.

Playtrove is not digitally signed yet, so Windows may show a protection notice when you first open it.

What's new

Whole cover art: Grid view now centers complete covers in matching 2:3 areas, with a neutral background around different image shapes and the status below the artwork. Details view and the side panel also preserve each cover's original proportions, without cropping, stretching or blurred filler.

Local background videos: choose an MP4 or WebM from a game's More menu. Playtrove stores its own copy and plays it silently on a loop in Details view, leaving your original file untouched.

Automatic trailers: with IGDB configured, Playtrove finds a YouTube trailer alongside each game's metadata and downloads a local copy, up to 720p and 100 MiB. You can also fetch pending trailers for existing games from Settings → Metadata → Download metadata.

Your choice for each game: a local video takes priority over the automatic trailer. Removing the video disables automatic videos for that game; Use automatic trailer turns them back on and starts a new search.

Changes

Background videos play automatically, without a button over the artwork. Reduced motion starts playback paused, and hiding the window pauses it. Switching game or view stops the previous video.

The background image remains visible while a video loads or if playback fails. A trailer download failure shows a notice while keeping the game's description and images.

Fixes

Fixed background video playback in development mode when React StrictMode repeats the component setup and cleanup.

Windows file properties now follow the released version, and release binaries use generic compilation paths.

Notes

The first trailer download prepares about 58 MB of components from official releases, verified before use. No separate installation is needed.

Your library, settings and saved API keys are preserved.

Playtrove-Setup-0.8.0.exe: the installer. If Playtrove is already installed, choose Update in the update notification: the previous version is removed and the new one opens by itself, with your library.

Playtrove-0.8.0-portable.zip: unzip it into a new folder and open
Playtrove.exe
. To keep your library from a previous portable copy, close the app and move its
data
folder next to the new
Playtrove.exe
.

Playtrove is not digitally signed yet, so Windows may show a protection notice when you first open it.

What's new

Rebuilt with Tauri and Rust: everything behind the screens (library, emulators, playtime, metadata, achievements, PS3 trophies and the DualSense battery) was rewritten in Rust, and the app now uses the WebView2 that comes with Windows instead of shipping its own browser. The interface is the same.

Much smaller downloads: the installer went from about 100 MB to about 5 MB, and the portable version from about 140 MB to about 7 MB.

Signed updates: the app only installs updates signed with the project's key.

New installer: it now has a few screens, where you can choose the install folder. It still installs just for you, without asking for admin rights.

Fixes

On screens smaller than 1280×800, the window no longer goes past the screen when it leaves the maximized state.

Notes

Your library, settings and saved API keys are preserved.

Playtrove needs Microsoft Edge WebView2, which comes with Windows 10 and 11. If it's missing, the installer adds it.

Playtrove-Setup-0.6.0.exe: the installer. If you already have Playtrove installed, it updates itself: just click Update on the notice.

Playtrove-0.6.0-portable.zip: the portable version. Unzip it anywhere and open
Playtrove.exe
; your library stays in the
data
folder next to it.

Playtrove isn't digitally signed yet, so Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" the first time: click More info and then Run anyway.

What's new

Three new emulators: PPSSPP (PSP), Dolphin (GameCube and Wii) and Azahar (3DS). Playtrove finds them on its own, suggests them for folders named "PSP", "GameCube", "Wii" or "3DS", and adds their games with covers, details and achievements (RetroAchievements has PSP, GameCube and Wii). The playtime each emulator records counts too.

PS3 trophies before the first run: RPCS3 only installs a game's trophies the first time the game starts. Until then, the Trophies card says when they'll show up instead of staying hidden.

Fixes

Grid: the status strip now sits right below the cover, so no part of the cover is hidden anymore.

Game details: when a ROM hack on IGDB has the same name as the original game (like "Chrono Trigger+"), Playtrove now picks the original. To fix a game that already got the wrong details, use More → Download metadata on it.

Notes

PPSSPP closes along with the game when you choose Exit in its pause menu, and Dolphin closes when the game stops. Azahar has no option for that, so its playtime keeps counting until you close Azahar.
